Stephen White

Stephen White is a Senior Research Fellow at The Soufan Center, focusing on criminal justice and police reform, security and human rights, and countering violent extremism. He is a former United Kingdom senior police chief based mostly in Northern Ireland and has worked in over fifty countries on countering violent extremism, human rights, community policing, and leadership development within the criminal justice system. He was the European Union’s Head of Mission for its Rule of Law Mission in Iraq, as well as the Special Adviser to the EU’s High Representative and Secretary General for almost five years. He has previously also worked with The Soufan Group since 2010 on programs such as ‘Countering the Narrative’ and research on ‘What Works in CVE in Europe.’ Currently, he is one of Northern Ireland’s Human Rights Commissioners. He is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and Cambridge University, and an honorary professor of practice at QUB‘s Management School.
