Patrick Skinner, The Cop Who Refuses To Be At War

The Soufan Center hosted a fireside chat with Patrick Skinner, Police Officer in Savannah and Director of Special Projects at The Soufan Group, on the state of policing in America in mid-June. One of the key drivers of division between police departments and their communities is an “us-vs-them” mindset, fueled by years of militarization of police departments, according to Skinner. The discussion, led by Emerita Torres, Director of Policy Research and Programs at The Soufan Center, covered the need for reform in policing in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, including the need to change the mindset of police departments from a wartime posture to a neighborly mindset.
