Countering Terrorist Narratives & Strategic Communications: Comparing the Violent Far-Right with ISIL/Da’esh and Al-Qaida
The Soufan Center, in partnership with the Permanent Missions of Germany, Belgium, Norway, and Tunisia to the United Nations, was pleased to host a webinar entitled, “Countering Terrorist Narratives & Strategic Communications: Comparing the Violent Far-Right with ISIL/Da’esh and Al-Qaida.” The webinar addressed terrorist recruitment narratives and propaganda, considering the approaches developed by al-Qaeda, ISIL/Da’esh, and violent far-right groups, as well as lessons learned from international actions. Panelists explored policy and practical responses and strategic communications measures, and how they apply to contemporary terrorist dynamics.
Panelists included: Vidhya Ramalingam, Founder of Moonshot CVE; Mattias Sundholm, Communications Officer for the UN Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED); Colin P. Clarke, Senior Research Fellow with The Soufan Center; and as moderator, Naureen Chowdhury Fink, Executive Director of The Soufan Center.
