Civil Society Town Hall on the Eighth UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy Review

On April 25, 2023, TSC staff attended an event held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City that brought together civil society members and UN member states ahead of the 2023 UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy Review process. Speaking during the event, TSC Executive Director Naureen Chowdhury Fink urged Member States to maintain consensus and bear in mind the impact their ongoing work would hold on both terrorist actors and civil society groups as they negotiated the text of latest strategy document. She also addressed what she described as a general lack of accountability faced by terrorist actors for their crimes, as well as by government actors who misused and abused UN counterterrorism instruments to undermine human rights.
