On April 7, 2021, Senior Research Fellow Colin P. Clarke participated in a live briefing “Cashing in on Guns,” hosted by the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) with Project CRAAFT. The event focused on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) as a source of terrorism financing, respectively the Middle East and West-Africa, and presented the main findings from a year-long research project by ICCT. Other participants included Tanya Mehra, Senior Researcher and project lead at ICCT The Hague, Méryl Demuynck, Researcher at ICCT The Hague, and Nils Duquet, Director at the Flemish Peace Institute. “The Middle East has experienced significant levels of conflict that have ebbed and flowed for decades, leading to a region awash with weaponry,” remarked Dr. Clarke in his presentation.
