Virtual CSO Roundtable: ISIL Trends and Developments in Africa

On October 28 – 29, 2021, Naureen Fink, Executive Director of The Soufan Center, participated in a virtual civil society roundtable on “ISIL Trends and Developments in Africa.” Hosted by the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), civil society participants discussed the trends and trajectory of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and affiliated groups across Africa. The discussion offered insights into developments and threat ahead of the planned joint open briefing of the Counter-Terrorism Committee and the 1267/1989/2253 ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee on ISIL in Africa, focusing on the evolving terrorist threats in Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, the Lake Chad Basin, the Sahel, and North Africa.
