Emerita Torres, Director of Policy, Research and Programs at The Soufan Center, participated in a conference ‘When Seeing Isn’t Believing: Deepfakes and the Law’ speaking in a session on ‘Global Implications of False Information for National and International Security and Human Rights.’ The event was organized by the NYU Center for Cybersecurity and the NYU Journal of Legislation & Public Policy on the topic of deepfakes and the law. Deepfakes have problematic implications for individuals, companies, the proliferation of “fake news,” state security, and trust in democracy. Emerita Torres presented the findings and recommendations from the 2019 Global Security Forum on ‘Security Challenges in the Era of Modern Disinformation.’
