On December 1, 2021, Ali Soufan, Founder of The Soufan Center, participated in an event ‘The Forever Prisoner: Q&A with Alex Gibney and Ali Soufan,’ taking place in Washington D.C. Mr. Soufan spoke alongside the film’s director, Alex Gibney, and Jane Mayer, writer at the New Yorker, who served as the moderator. The Forever Prisoner, released by HBO, tells the story of Abu Zubaydah, the first high-value detainee subjected to the CIA’s program of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EITs), later identified as torture by those outside the agency. “We never had accountability for anything,” concluded Mr. Soufan during the event.
