Dr. Nicolas Stockhammer is a Senior Research Fellow at The Soufan Center, focusing on European counterterrorism strategy, youth radicalization, and the role that technology and social media play in violent extremist networks. Dr. Stockhammer heads the Research Cluster ‘Counter-Terrorism, CVE (Countering Violent Extremism) and Intelligence’ in the Department of Security Studies at Danube-University Krems in Austria. Until 2021, he had been a senior post-doc researcher of the research group Polemology and Legal Ethics at the University of Vienna. From 2004 to 2006, he was a research fellow and university lecturer at the chair for Political Theory at Humboldt-University Berlin in Germany. A political scientist with a focus on security policy and terrorism research, he has numerous publications in academic journals, contributions to print media, and frequent appearances as an expert commentator on terrorism and related security developments. Dr. Stockhammer’s work and scholarship on security policy continue to be recognized nationally in Austria and internationally.
