Joseph “Joe” Simon Donnelly Sr. serves as Chairman of The Board of The Soufan Center. Heis a lawyer and former United States Senator from Indiana from 2013 to 2019. He was also the U.S. Representative from Indiana’s 2ndCongressional District from 2007 to 2013.
As a Senator, he worked extensively on issues concerning the military services and agriculture, having been assigned to the Committee on Armed Services, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Senator Donnelly also served on the Banking Committee. He was the Ranking Member of the Banking Subcommittee for National Security and International Trade and Finance. During his time in politics, Donnelly has been outspoken on the importance of improving the educational standards of America’s public schools and the problem of growing student debt. He has also worked extensively on legislation to create more jobs and protect American interests in international trade agreements.
Prior to entering politics, Donnelly worked as an attorney for a law firm in South Bend, Indiana, and ran his own printing business. He previously served on the school board for Mishawaka Marian High School in Indiana and the Indiana State Election Board. He obtained a B.A. in government from the University of Notre Dame and later graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
