On May 7, 2025, Senior Research Fellow Colin P. Clarke participated in an in-person roundtable on ‘Jihadism and Geopolitics: Horn of Africa and Beyond.’ The discussion was hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) as part of the Roundtable Series on Africa in a Changing Global Order. The Horn of Africa remains a focal point for the operations of various jihadist groups in Africa, the most prominent of which is the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab. The roundtable discussion focused on the activities of these violent nonstate actors, with the goal of informing and shaping U.S. foreign policy in the Horn of Africa and beyond. The event was moderated by Ebenezer Obadare, Douglas Dillon Senior Fellow for Africa Studies, Council on Foreign Relations.
