On July 26, 2021, Stephanie Foggett, Resident Fellow at The Soufan Center, participated in an online seminar on ‘Gender and Radicalization’ hosted by the TACTICS Institute for Security and Counter Terrorism. As more women and girls join the ranks of terrorist groups, the event focused on the questions raised regarding recruitment and gender roles. The discussion also touched upon debates on how to manage female returnees from Syria and Iraq who were formerly affiliated with terrorist organizations. Other speakers included Seran de Leede, Associate Fellow at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT), and Anne Speckhard, Director of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism (ICSVE). The event was moderated by Barbara Matias, of the TACTICS Institute for Counter Terrorism.
