On May 15, 2025, Senior Research Fellow Colin P. Clarke and Research Fellow Clara Broekaert participated in the ‘Budapest Conference on Terrorism – Is Terrorism Political Violence or Organized Crime?’ Hosted by the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) Migration Research Institute and the University of St Andrews Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, the event set out to bridge the gap between political violence and organized crime studies, offering new insights into the intersections of ideology, strategy, and profit in contemporary terrorism. Dr. Clarke and Ms. Broekaert presented on the topic ‘The Evolution of the Crime-Terror Nexus: Is a Typology Feasible?’
