On August 19, 2021, the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation hosted the 2021 James W. Foley Freedom Awards. Ali Soufan, Founder of The Soufan Center, was awarded the 2020 James W. Foley ‘Legacy Achievement Award, A Profile In Moral.’ In his remarks Ali Soufan concluded, “I can only end by saying that we achieve more when we work together. Governments, international organizations, NGOs, the private sector, and advocates of hostage victims and their families achieve more when they work together.” This award honor’s Ali Soufan’s pro bono work in helping to secure the release of Theo Padnos, an American journalist who was released by al-Nusra in 2014, and for helping families of the 2014 American hostages taken by ISIS.
